Sony and Honda Unveil New Afeela Electric SUV at CES 2026

At the CES 2026 international show in Las Vegas, the joint venture Sony Honda Mobility (SHM) again drew public attention by presenting its vision of future mobility. The company showcased:
a pre-production version of its first electric car, the Afeela 1,
and an SUV prototype (Afeela Prototype 2026), which may become the second production model in the lineup.
What is Sony Honda Mobility
Sony Honda Mobility is a joint company created by Sony Group and Honda that combines entertainment technologies and automotive expertise to create "mobility as a space for creative entertainment" using artificial intelligence and next-generation sensors.
Afeela 1 — the first electric car of a new era

Design and technical data
Afeela 1 is a mid-size electric liftback with a fully digital interior and an extensive entertainment system.
Body type: 5-door liftback
Drivetrain: all-wheel drive, two electric motors with total output ≈483 hp (≈355 kW)
Battery: ≈91 kWh
Range: about 483 km by EPA estimate
Fast charging: up to 150 kW via the NACS standard
With a wide set of sensors — 40 units — the driver assistance system provides Level 2+ capability, with the potential for upgrades to more advanced autonomy levels in the future.
Interior and technologies
The Afeela 1 cabin is focused on digital entertainment:
panoramic displays across the full width of the dashboard,
separate screens for passengers,
integration of an AI assistant and gaming features (for example, streaming PlayStation games via Remote Play).
This concept turns the car into a "mobile entertainment hub" rather than just a means of transport.
Price and market
The base Afeela 1 will be offered in the USA starting from $89,900, while better-equipped versions will reach about $102,900 or higher, depending on trim and subscription options.
New Afeela SUV prototype
At CES 2026 SHM also unexpectedly revealed a new SUV prototype, which represents the next step after the Afeela 1.
What is known about the prototype
This is a crossover concept called Afeela Prototype 2026, which could become a full SUV model in the future.
The company has not disclosed technical details, but it is assumed the underlying platform will be shared with the Afeela 1, retaining similar characteristics.
A production version could arrive in the USA as early as 2028.
This move demonstrates Sony and Honda’s intent to expand their electric vehicle lineup and offer customers more variety.
Development strategy and the future
Sony Honda Mobility positions itself as a technology-driven automotive company, where software, multimedia features and AI play a central role.
The company intends to develop its products not only as vehicles but also as intelligent platforms for entertainment and services. Although initial Afeela 1 deliveries will be limited to the USA, future plans may include expansion into other markets as the brand and interest in this new approach to electric vehicles grow.
