It Has a Ladder Frame, but That Does Not Make It a “Triton with a Different Body”

The manufacturer also specifically says that the cabin, front suspension and rear suspension have been reworked for the SUV. This is an important qualification: sharing a platform does not allow the Triton’s dimensions, on-road behaviour or powertrain range to be automatically attributed to the Pajero.

A ladder frame is typically chosen for vehicles that need high durability on rough roads, towing capability and the ability to handle serious loads. But the frame itself does not indicate the ground clearance, approach and departure angles, wading depth or maximum trailer weight. All of these figures are worth waiting for until the September 2 presentation.
How to Read the Future Technical Sheet
If engine output is revealed on the day of the premiere, that alone will not be enough to assess the SUV’s off-road capability. The teasers point to the return of the Triple Multi Meter in digital form. It is expected to display altitude, compass direction, outside temperature, longitudinal and lateral roll angles, as well as torque distribution between the wheels. Mitsubishi has not yet explained where this unit will be positioned—in the instrument panel, on the central screen or as a separate display.
