Frequently asked questions

Porsche plans to sell the new SUV with ICE and PHEV powertrains alongside the electric Macan. The strategy does not announce the cancellation or conversion of the electric model.

MotorTrend reports a 2027 launch, while Porsche identifies 2028 as the first full production year. The official release does not confirm the exact premiere date or the start of customer deliveries.

Porsche plans to present the direction of a possible mid-engine supercar platform on October 15, 2026. Its power output, price and series-production timeline have not been disclosed, and the project is not described as a replacement for the 911.

On October 7, 2026, Porsche presented its Sportwagenschmiede ’35 strategy in Weissach. For buyers, it sets out three main directions: a new SUV with petrol and plug-in hybrid versions alongside the electric Macan, continued development of the electric 718 Boxster and Cayman, and a mid-engine platform for a model line positioned above the 911.

In Porsche’s official announcement, these projects are at different stages. Production timelines have been outlined for some, while others currently involve only a presentation of the brand’s future direction. The dates therefore need to be read alongside the specific event they refer to.

Macan: a petrol alternative will return as a separate project

On January 25, 2024, Porsche held the world premiere of the second-generation Macan in Singapore. The model became fully electric and adopted the PPE platform with an 800-volt architecture. Porsche now plans to offer a new SUV with an internal-combustion engine and a plug-in hybrid powertrain alongside it.

The word “alongside” is important here: the new SUV is intended to be sold in parallel with the electric Macan. The published strategy does not announce the cancellation of the electric model or its conversion to a petrol engine.

MotorTrend describes the project as the return of a petrol-powered Macan and reports the internal designation M1. Porsche’s official release, however, refers to it only as a “new SUV” and does not give it a model name. It is therefore too early to call it a confirmed new ICE generation of the Macan.

Three cars that are easy to confuse

The first-generation petrol Macan on the used market, the second-generation electric Macan and the future SUV planned for 2028 are different vehicles. When comparing listings, the Macan name alone is no longer enough: buyers need to check the generation and powertrain type. The announcement of a future model does not change the specifications of a vehicle that has already been produced.

718 Boxster and Cayman: the electric project continues

The new strategy keeps the electric Boxster and Cayman on the roadmap. Porsche expects them to complete their first full year of production in 2028 and support the brand’s sales.

Following the presentation, MotorTrend reported that the new models would arrive in 2027. That is consistent with the target of a full production year in 2028, but Porsche’s official release does not set an exact premiere date or confirm when the first cars will be delivered to buyers. The first full year of production and the start of deliveries are different dates.

For anyone choosing a 718, the nature of this transition is the key point. The existing petrol Boxster and Cayman and the future electric models will require different operating conditions. It is too early to compare them on price, range or charging speed because the strategy announcement does not provide those specifications for the new 718 models.

Mission S: a place above the 911, with specifications still to come

The next specific date is October 15, 2026. Porsche has promised to show the direction of a possible mid-engine supercar platform. The Mission S teaser discussed by specialist publications is linked to this announcement.

The idea goes beyond a single show car: the strategy refers to a platform that could support a model line above the 911. At the same time, Porsche also has new versions planned for the 911 itself. The arrival of a more expensive family does not mean that the 911 is being prepared for replacement.

Car and Driver mentions a rumour about a flat-eight engine. The official materials reviewed as of October 8 do not confirm this configuration. The power output, price and series-production timeline for Mission S have also not been disclosed.

What to look for in the October 15 presentation

The main question is how close the vehicle shown will be to a production model. The most useful information will concern the powertrain, production decision and timeline. A concept presentation alone does not answer when the car will be available to order.

Why there are more new projects but fewer versions

The foundation of Porsche’s strategy through 2035 is the principle of Value over Volume. The company is prioritising vehicle profitability and a more expensive product mix rather than maximum sales volume. That explains the combination of new model families with a streamlined existing range.

Porsche intends to reduce the number of model variants by around 20%. At the same time, it wants to raise the average transaction price of models at the upper end of the range by around 20% over the medium term, through their positioning, content and expanded personalisation options.

This is not an announcement that every Porsche will become 20% more expensive. The average transaction price depends on which vehicles buyers choose and which options they specify. The corporate target cannot be used to calculate the future price of a particular Macan or 911.

What to consider when choosing a Porsche now

  • If you need a petrol SUV, the future 2028 project cannot yet be compared with available vehicles on price or equipment.

  • If you are considering the electric Macan, the strategy provides for it to coexist with the new ICE model.

  • If you are choosing a 718, first decide whether you want a petrol sports car or are prepared to wait for the electric model and its final specifications.

As of October 8, 2026, Porsche is continuing several development paths at once. The practical significance of the new plan lies in the future choice of powertrains and models. A purchase decision still requires the specifications of the specific version, local pricing and a confirmed delivery date.
