What has changed on the outside

Mercedes has updated the MB.OS software platform and says the vehicle software can receive over-the-air updates. Powertrains: why diesel has not disappeared
Specialist publications report that the C-Class will continue to be offered in Europe with petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid powertrains. Mercedes-Benz has not publicly given one specific reason for retaining diesel and has not disclosed the full range of versions for every country. It would therefore be speculation to link the decision solely, for example, to demand from corporate fleets or long-distance drivers.
There is a simpler, confirmed answer to the question “why has diesel stayed?” Euro 7 is technology-neutral and does not ban diesel passenger cars. For the M1 and N1 categories, it retains the existing Euro 6 exhaust-emissions limits while expanding the requirements to cover, among other things, particles larger than 10 nm, brake emissions and tyre wear. For buyers, this means that a diesel version is not exempt from the new standards, while the Euro 7 label itself says nothing about fuel consumption, service life or maintenance costs. These factors must be compared for the specific version and market.
Do not confuse the two C-Class models
The updated C-Class with internal-combustion engines is a facelift of the W206. The electric C-Class is a separate model built on a dedicated electric architecture. Their service names and design elements may overlap, but the range, battery or specifications of the electric version cannot automatically be applied to the petrol, diesel or hybrid sedan.

What Euro 7 changes—and what it does not
On November 29, 2026, Euro 7 requirements will begin to apply to new types of passenger cars and vans. The standard covers more than exhaust emissions: it includes requirements for particles from brakes and tyres, as well as traction-battery durability requirements for electric and hybrid vehicles.
Euro 7 should not be confused with active-safety rules.
